The popularity of most games comes and goes with the trends, and what people play today could be completely different than what people play tomorrow. It must be difficult for game designers and developers to predict the trends and switch gears to a different game the moment those trends start to change. Playing cards don’t seem to follow those trends though. Playing card games has remained popular for hundreds of years.
Wow, these playing cards are absolutely stunning. It’s not surprising at all to me that they took over a year to make. Designer Monja Gentschow created these illustrations with pencil, pen, tape and watercolor. She used 32 sheets of tear and water-resistant synthetic paper.
Her interpretation of the Jack, Queen, King and Ace are all so well done, and they have a very “Titanic” feel to me. The way the colors run together creates such a beautiful effect, and that shade of green is intoxicating. Monja is influenced by oddity, insomnia, perfectionism, tune and humor. She is selling this limited edition set on iGNANT for only $25. I wonder if whoever buys these will play cards with them, or instead, display them safely in a box.
