I have found that it is easy to be creative once you know what you want to be creative with. What I mean to express is that finding something to be creative with is probably harder than to come up with something creative once you have picked your outlet. Art in general has always mesmerized my mushy brain, and I usually get inspired by the great things people send to us on a daily basis. It’s like being part of a well oiled pitching machine that never stops. The flavor of it may differ, but the content shared is usually up to a good standard and we archive everything like our entire venture depended on it. Well, it does, but you know what I mean.
When I saw the creativity that Carlos Zuniga, an artist based in Chile, shared through the simple means of a phone book and a marker, I was locked in a quick thought about just how someone comes up with these things. I mean, do you suddenly start to strike over things in a phone book just like that? Is there a thought pattern involved, or is it a totally random act of silliness? I guess I will have to inquire to Carlos about that; however, his art speaks of great talent for patterns.
His art, which I think anyone will find quite extraordinary, is pretty much full of portraits created using a marker in a phone book. And by striking over the names and numbers on each page, he manages to form patterns that simulate shadows and features of the faces he draws. It’s a perspective that I haven’t stumbled over before, and that I find quite intriguing. We have all heard about great code breakers who see patterns in pretty much everything. Carlos sees them in phone books, which in itself is not a little feat. Amazing!
