Creating Simple Electronics Through 3D Printing Is Now Possible

3D printing technology is moving forward at an almost lightning fast pace. Just a few years ago, 3D printing was considered a science fiction type of technology, and one that humans were not thought to master for decades to come. But thanks to some very dedicated innovators and the growing interest for this quite amazing industry, things have moved beyond our wildest expectations. Today we can print things with accuracy down to a few microns, and even print whole gadgets with moving parts in one go. Up until now, we haven’t been able to print working simple electronics though, no matter how simple they were. However, that has now changed in an instant, and we are looking at another huge leap in 3D printing technology.

This breakthrough comes from the University of Warwick where researchers have been able to create new material to print with. This new material, nicknamed “‘carbomorph,” is a combination of carbon black and polymorph, hence the name. It will allow us to print simple electronics such as game controllers and gadgets that don’t include wiring within them that is too advanced.

Even though it might seem like a small step to print simple electronics, it’s still a huge step towards a more advanced technology. The next step for the researchers at the University of Warwick is to print more advanced electronics. Maybe it will be a while still before we will see simple electronics printing become advanced cell phone printing. But at least we’re on our way to breaking all expectations when it comes to 3D printing and the technology behind it. For everyone who once believed that 3D printing gadgets at home was always going to be a science fiction dream, brace yourself since we are on the verge of making this technology far more advanced than any of us could have ever expected. I wouldn’t be surprised if within a few years we will be able to buy a simple electronics cell phone through the Internet and then instantly print it out and use it as soon as we have downloaded the blueprints for it. It’s a technology that will change the world quite a lot. There’s no doubt about it!
