This pen, which is the world’s first 3D printing pen, is going to blow your mind. Apparently it’s blown a lot of other people’s minds too because they are trying to raise $30,000 on Kickstarter, and with 32 days left, they’ve already raised over $600,000 at the time I’m writing this. There is a good chance they will raise over $1,000,000 by the end of the campaign, which is quite a stretch from the $30,000 they had hoped for. In a nutshell, this pen writes in 3D sculptures.
In other words, you know how sometimes you might air-doodle with your finger? If you air-doodle using this pen, you’ll actually create a 3D sculpture of your drawing or text. It works very similarly to a handheld 3D printer. It basically melts the plastic beads, but as you write, that plastic comes out of the end of the pen itself in a solid strand if that makes sense.
The plastic solidifies super fast as it exits the pen, and that is thanks to the tiny fan which cools it quickly as it comes out. As you can see in the video below, it isn’t sloppy like you might think. It is precise and can create 3D sculptures from your most detailed drawings.
If you are interested in getting this 3D printing pen to create your own 3D sculptures from your doodles, you can click over to their Kickstarter where you can get one with a pledge of $50. That also comes with a bag of mixed color plastic (remember, you’ll put the plastic in the pen, which will then melt and solidify as it comes out in the form of your drawing). Also, on the Kickstarter page you can get much more information about this. I gotta get one of these for myself!
