Post-apocalyptic designs are always my favorites. Their futuristic flavor and creative use of technology always stands out when compared to others. This fiber optic corset dress is a perfect example. It looks like something you’d see in Blade Runner, and I can only imagine seeing a real dress like this in a club. It glows and shimmers with the beat of the music and turns the person wearing it into a part of the music itself, like a prop making it more enhanced than before.
This fetish dress was created by designer Rachael Reichert. Like all corset dresses, this one creates an extreme hourglass figure for whomever wears it. The illuminated fiber optic strips are what make it so unique though, and as you’ll see in the video, they keep up with the music well. According to Rachael’s website, “The Fiber Optic Corset Dress was created out of a desire to create a piece of wearable technology that was aesthetically ethereal, futuristic, and used the illumination in a relevant way.”
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about a dress full of technology. As you know, wearable tech is the trend, and there have been some fabulous tech dresses presented over the years. The dress made with 10,000 Embroidered LEDs is colorful, but the Intimacy 2.0 dress is probably my favorite tech-infused dress thus far. The dress itself becomes more transparent as you have more physical contact with people when you’re out at night.
Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll see this fiber optic corset dress out in a club anytime soon. It was created for the exhibition of the International Symposium on Wearable Computing in Zurich next month. I’m sure it’s one-of-kind, and whoever get to wear it will look fantastically futuristic I’m sure.
