At first, I titled this article “World’s Largest NES Controller.” I had to go back and add the word “Working” because unlike many of the huge goofy NES controllers we’ve seen in the past, this one is actually functional! It’s so big that the only way to control it is to stand on the buttons. Now the question is, will they be officially entered into the Guinness Book of World Records? We’ll have to wait just a little longer to see about that.
Engineering students at the Dutch University of TU Delft made this monstrosity controller, which they unveiled last week. It is 30 times larger than the original. It’s 12 feet (3.6 meters) by 5 feet (1.6 meters) and plays a mean game of Super Mario Bros. and Tetris.
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of details available in English about how or why they took on this project. Regardless, I love it! In the video demonstration below, the controller was plugged into a standard size NES hooked up to a gigantic LED screen. You’ll see kids jumping around on the buttons and playing the games. Wow, if I had this controller for a day, I would make a “no kids allowed” rule and it would be adult Nintendo party time! Heeeeeey! #DreamComeTrue
