We’ve all walked into a coffee shop before and seen the chalkboard near the door with the daily specials on it, right? It’s usually just a standard, sloppy list written in dusty white chalk. Well, where some people see a boring place to quickly scribble some notes, other people see a beautiful palate and an opportunity to create greatness, or at least that’s the case with this artist.
Sara Jahn, an artist who lives in Illinois, used to work at a coffee shop. Part of her job included writing the daily specials on the chalkboard. She took that job and ran with it, creating geeky works of art each day for everyone to enjoy. You’ll see Voltron, Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and even my favorite, Link.
I wonder how much her brilliant chalk signs affected the coffee customers. I also wonder how long it took her to do each one of these. It would probably take me all day. At least it’s a chalkboard so she could erase any mistakes without having to start over. I love the pokeballs for the letter “o.” I know if there was a coffee shop here in Atlanta that had a different sign like this each day, I’d go out of my way to go there. The Espresso Royale coffee shop in Champaign, Illinois was lucky to have her! If you would like to see more of Sara Jahn’s artwork, check her out on facebook.
