Behind Photographs: The People Behind The Famous Photos

We have featured quite a few photo series here on Bit Rebels, and seemingly you guys really enjoy that. We think that is great since we love photography in all its different incarnations as well. This time around, I thought I would switch it up a little bit. Usually the photos, as creative as they may be, are the focus of attention. Well, that is if the photographer isn’t the motif himself as I mentioned yesterday in my article about Extreme Photography. That way he or she can get exposure no matter what. However, being the photographer of a famous photograph sometimes puts you in the background unwillingly evading all the positive attention from the masses. In these particular photos, it is easy to see why the photographers get a little bit forgotten.

So what can be done to pivot this axis to put the photographers in the limelight for once? Well, all you really have to do is to follow Tim Mantoani‘s lead. He actually spent over five years looking up, scheduling and photographing the people behind some of the most famous photographs that we have seen countless times in the media. It is an exclusive group of people who each took a photo that literally changed the world in some way or another.

Tim collected them all and created a book called Behind Photographs that is now available to everyone. Tim is described as a modern day Edward S. Curtis, and I think we will see this book on countless coffee tables around the world. It’s a magnificent way to get the entire history of the photographs, and how they came about in a comprehensive format for everyone who has long been wondering. The book, featuring over 150 famous photographers and their most legendary photographs, is definitely a marvel to behold. Stunning is just too little of a word to be used, but I can’t find another word worthy of this genius and inspiring book. I am stunned!
