Creative Advertising: Where The Wild Things Are IRL

If you are like me, you grew up with a copy of the classic children’s book Where The Wild Things Are on your bookshelf. I can still remember when I was about four years old and that book was too scary for me, and then of course as I got older it became one of my favorites. It was always there on the bookshelf though, and all I had to do to enter that dreamy world was to open it and start reading.

We’ve seen several adaptions of what those scary monsters would look like IRL over the years, and the most popular one was probably the Where The Wild Things Are movie that was released back in 2009.

Whenever someone with a vivid imagination creates an interpretation of what those monsters look like, I can’t resist taking a peek. There’s just something about those monsters that draw me to them like a magnet. Mulberry is a company that sells women’s handbags, leather accessories, briefcases, luggage, wallets and those types of things. They recently released their fall 2012 advertising campaign, and it definitely caught my attention.

If you were the lucky person in charge of creating an advertising campaign that would make people look at this company’s handbags, how would you do it? Yep, they created some monsters that remind us of Where The Wild Things Are, and it’s brilliant. Creative Director Emma Hill came up with this vision. Ronnie Cooke, the campaign’s Art Director, said, “The campaign is an interpretation of dreams and fears.” Part of what makes these photographs so wonderful is the photography itself. These fantasy pictures were taken by Tim Walker, and the colors are rich and luxurious, which matches the brand.

So if you ever wanted to get another glimpse of the Where The Wild Things Are monsters IRL, here’s your chance. They look so furry and friendly. I wish they existed for real… and maybe somewhere they do.
