I’ve been trying to figure out why it is that artists often create Disney princes and princesses in provocative positions, and I think I’ve finally figured it out. After almost dying from sitting through the new Smurfs movie last weekend, I’ve decided that our kids have dragged us to so many animated Disney films that we are about to lose our minds. The only way to stay sane is to re-imagine them in more playful adult roles. Yep, that must be it.
These illustrations are creative and fun, and if these Princesses were real people and not just fictitious characters, they would be proud I’m sure. The artist, Dante Tyler, did a fabulous job, and reading the text is almost as much fun as the pictures themselves.
I noticed that Dante very cleverly incorporated characteristics of real supermodels into these illustrations. You’ll see the classic model “blank stare,” the pouty lips and the unnatural poses. These are fabulous. Many people have asked Dante to create more princesses on Vogue covers (i.e. Alice, Mulan), but he has decided not to.
