How To: Properly Tattoo A Banana

A banana is an extraordinary fruit. In addition to eating them, people use bananas to make banana wine, fiber and even clothes (see a banana peel dress here). Banana leaves are waterproof and the large ones are sometimes even used as umbrellas. About a year ago, I wrote about the Healing Power Of Banana Peels. So the next time you go to the supermarket to pick up a bundle of bananas, just remember, there’s more ways to use that fruit and its peel than you may realize.

My favorite use for bananas, aside from eating them, is using them to create art. There are even some artists who have figured out how to carve bananas. If you’ve never seen that before, you can click over to Banana Carvings Of Zombies, Superheroes and Dragons to check out some pretty amazing examples.

Today it’s all about tattooing a banana. I’ve heard about this before. When I was a little girl, I had a friend who used to poke her bananas to make art, but it never looked anything like what Phil Hansen creates. In this video below, he gives an excellent tutorial for how to properly tattoo a banana. The neat thing about this kind of art is that you only need three things: A banana, a pin and your creativity.

If you happen to pick up a banana today, think of all the things you can do with it. You can tattoo it, and then eat it, and then rub the peel on your forehead to make your wrinkles (and your headache) go away, and then stick it in the ground as fertilizer. Dang, that’s a useful little thing. After learning all this, it’s hard to believe you can buy a banana here for about a quarter. You can learn more about Phil on his Phil In The Whaaat? website.
