Now that’s what I call a tribute! What better way to pay homage to one of the greatest guitar players of all time than to recreate him in the form of a colorful mosaic made with 5,000 guitar picks? I never knew the magic of Jimi Hendrix’s music since that was a little before my time, but I’ve read enough about him to know he was the shit. Apparently artist Ed Chapman feels the same way.
We’ve seen artwork created before with guitar picks, but I’ve never seen anyone use so many vibrant colors to achieve such a stunning look. This is fabulous! Ed created this very special commemorative piece to be auctioned off at a cancer research event in the UK. It sold for £23,000, which was a lot higher than the anticipated price of between £12,000 and £16,000. They buyer, who remains a mystery bidder, must have really wanted this!
The artist is apparently as nice as the artwork he created. After his mosaic portrait sold, he said, “It’s more than we’d hoped for and although it’s nice for the person who bought it, it’s really, really good for a charity which works to stop a disease that sadly touches everyone.” I can only imagine how spectacular something like this would look in the form of other legendary guitar rockers also, like Slash or Eddie Van Halen. I love everything about this!
