Photography: Get To Know Your Body In A New Way

As we’ve said before, there are many worlds within our world that surround us everyday. We can’t see the detail with our human eyes, but with the magic of microscopic photography, we can get a glimpse of it. We’ve featured a lot of this photography on Bit Rebels, and those articles always seem to be popular with our readers.

I love photography, and my favorite photos are the ones that show the world in a way that we don’t normally get to see. One of our readers and my Twitter friend, @afirmin, put it best when he explained to me in a comment in this art installation article that, “It goes to show that you can look at one thing every single day and not really notice it, but suddenly change your perspective and the entire world looks different. It’s up to us to always look at the world in as many different ways as we can, only then can we truly appreciate its beauty.”

I don’t think anyone could deny that the photographs below show us a perspective that we haven’t seen before. Not only that, they are pictures of the inside of our body! Yep, these are our red blood cells, the split end of our hair, neurons in our brain, plaque on our tooth (gross), the inside of our lung and a human egg (yeah, the kind the sperm tries to get into).

First of all, I will never again roll my eyes at my hairdresser when he tells me to take care of my split ends on my hair. Secondly, that tooth plaque picture has permanently scarred me, and I don’t know if I will ever be able to kiss anyone again. I mean, really, that’s disgusting. These amazing 3D photographs were taken with a scanning electron microscope, which according to the source article at Interestings.net, “is a type of microscope that uses a beam of high-energy electrons to scan surfaces of images.” Nice!

The Split End of a Strand of Hair (no wonder it looks frizzy)

An Egg on the Top of a Pin (the human baby making kind – obviously they colored it for the photograph)

Plaque on a Tooth (gag)

The Inside of Your Lung (I don’t know, but I would guess this is not a smoker)

Neurons In Your Brain (I wonder if the fat ones are the really, really smart ones. Lol)

Your Red Blood Cells (kinda looks like strawberry Cheerios)
