Stunning Swimming Pool Created With 2,000 Cups & Glasses

This is definitely one of the most beautiful swimming pools I’ve ever seen, and the ironic thing is, it’s not really a swimming pool at all. What you see in these pictures is over 2,000 transparent plastic cups and glasses filled with blue water and then placed amongst bright lights at nighttime. People gathered around this swimming pool-like light show and relaxed, just as they might sit around the edge of a traditional swimming pool.

The La Latina neighborhood in Madrid used to have a popular, public swimming pool for all the residents to enjoy all year round. A few years ago, that pool was demolished, and city officials decided to build a shopping center in its place.

The people who decided to tear down the original pool promised to replace it with a bigger and better one soon. To this day, there is no new pool, and the residents are pretty pissed about it since it looks as if they will never get the new swimming pool they have been looking forward to for a few years. As a tribute to how special that community pool was, they all got together and created this swimming pool art installation in the place where the new pool was supposed to be constructed.

They spent a month collecting around 1,200 plastic cups that people had thrown in the garbage, and over 800 glasses that people left on the street after drinking alcohol. It took them twelve hours to place them all in just the right place, fill them with blue water, add some beautiful lighting and voila… this gorgeous swimming pool was born. Unfortunately, it had to be taken apart after only five hours. I hope this neighborhood gets their new swimming pool soon. You can read more about this on luzinterruptus.
