Twisted Technology: Deformed iPhone Looks Like A Spiraling Tower

Sometimes artists do strange things to popular gadgets in order to make a profound social, political or cultural statement about the world we live in today. Most of the time I don’t really get the message, but if it’s unique, interesting art, I’ll still write about it. That happened when I wrote about these blowtorched, crushed and shot Apple products, and it happened again today with these twisted technology sculptures.

Russian artists Alexel Shulgin and Aristarkh Chernyshev (known as Electroboutique), created this twisted iPhone, which was inspired by Tatlin’s Tower, and twisted iPod as part of an exhibition on display now at the Science Museum in London.

According to the artists, “The pieces become a riff on how art in the early 20th century used to subvert consumerism with avant-garde design, but now in the 21st century, avant-garde design has given way to consumerist products that are regarded as art.” Yeah, well, like I said, I just think these are very interesting to look at. If you would like to see the entire collection and read more about this, you can visit Twisted Technology Sculptures by Electroboutique courtesy of Google Translate. It hurts my brain to think of a real iPhone getting twisted like a pretzel, but once I get passed that, I really like this!
