Words Of Encouragement For Designers & Artists In A Creative Slump

If you are a web designer, blogger, photographer or artist of any kind, you probably know what it feels like to be in a creative slump. Anyone who is in any creative field knows what this feels like, and it’s not a fun place to be. There are a lot of people who dislike that state of uncertainty so much that they end up quitting and moving on to something else because they interpret a creative slump as them not being good at the work itself. However, that is not true. Just because you are in a creative lull at the moment, it doesn’t mean you aren’t meant to do creative work. These words of encouragement from Ira Glass will give you a whole new perspective.

What he says in this video is so true, and if you are new to creative work, I hope you listen to this because it’s one of those things nobody else will tell you. I’ve always said that if you are nervous or unsure about the quality of your work, no matter what kind of creative work it is, the key is to do more of it. By doing more and more, you will get better and better. There is just no way around that. There is no substitute for that kind of experience and no shortcuts to get there faster. Sometimes all you need are some words of encouragement to keep going.

I’ve even gone though this here at Bit Rebels. When Bit Rebels began back in June of 2009, I had never blogged before. My first posts were clumsy, sloppy and unpolished. They are embarrassing to look at now. I was unsure of myself and had no blogging confidence at all. Now, 3,052 articles later, I can look back and understand that I had to go through that. I had to get passed that stage, just as you have to get passed that stage in whatever you are working on. It’s not you, so don’t take it personally, it’s a phase that every creative person has to work through. Listen to these words of encouragement and realize that you are much more talented than you give yourself credit for!
