Darn You Facebook Games!

Do you know what I hate?

Facebook games.

Do you know what I hate more than Facebook games?

Updates from Facebook games that your friends just beat your score or they just purchased pigs on the farm.

Is it just me or have Facebook games and applications taken over your social media world too?

It may be hard to tell from that intro, but I am actually a big fan of Facebook. I think that the application is the best way to keep up and remain social with friends… especially the ones you have not seen in a while or have moved far away.  Unlike many other social media sites, Facebook has games and other interactive applications that you can take part in with your friends.  The interaction and usability of Facebook makes it a winner. That is, unless you are a looser at its games.

What I want to know is who has time to build a farm or manage a mob? Truthfully, I’d love to ride around in a big tractor all day and grow some corn but I doubt the barn has wireless internet.  Does anyone work anymore?

The worst part about Facebook games are the endless updates and recruits you find in your messages and feed. I’ve seen a growing trend recently where the applications have taken over my Facebook Live feed. I used to love just reading friends updates and commenting on whats going on. Now, I find myself hiding those game updates and requests faster than I could ever match “gems” in Bejeweled Blitz.

Others too are seeing similar waves about Facebook. Facebook “Groups” are now putting up a sparing match with the applications.  There are so many Farmville updates that groups such as “Not Playing Farmville” have risen. Do a search for “Mafia Wars” and you will get over 100 results of groups and pages dedicated to taking down the mob.

Facebook is at least smart enough to give its users the ability to customize its interface and “Hide” the annoyance of updates that dont appeal to you. If there is anything you dont wish to receive, simply click “Hide” just to the right of the message.

Now if you will excuse me, I just dropped to 5th amongst my friends in Bejeweled Blitz.
