Casino Games & Sports Betting Providers Behind The Scenes

Almost no casinos or betting sites have their own games, sportsbook or payment solutions. Instead, they lease the games and software from third-party providers. This makes online casinos safer, as the operator can’t manipulate the games or software.

Back to the providers of the iGaming sites around the world, the following are the biggest gambling software companies in their respective field:

Microgaming

Microgaming is one of the largest casino game studios in the world, and they create slot machines, table games and pretty much any other type of games you can find in an online casino. The company was founded in 1994 and has its headquarters in Douglas, Isle of Man.

NetEnt (Net Entertainment)

The Swedish game provider NetEnt is massively popular among online gamblers – particularly in the northern parts of Europe. NetEnt was founded in 1996 and have over 700 employees worldwide. Their most know slot machines include Starburst, Dead or Alive and Gonzo’s Quest.

Novomatic (greentube)

Novomatic is a giant within the gambling industry, not just online, but offline as well. The company was founded in 1980 by billionaire Johann Graf, and today they have over 30,000 employees internationally.

The most popular Novomatic slot machine is called “Book of Ra” and is the world’s most played slot ever. It’s hugely popular online, but the online revenues are not even in the same league as the offline revenues from casinos in Macau, Las Vegas, and the likes.

Novomatic’s total revenues for the year of 2018 was €5 billion, which makes them a powerhouse in the gambling and casino industry.

Kambi

The Kambi Group plc provides sports betting services to online gambling operators. In short, they offer the whole betting product, which is a full-service product. This means any gambling site can offer a top-of-the-line sportsbook, as long as Kambi gets its fair share.

The company was founded in 2014 when the Unibet board approved the spin-off of its B2B betting platform. Today, Kambi is worth more than $525 million and is listed on the First North exchange at Nasdaq Stockholm.

Evolution Gaming

The live casino giant Evolution Gaming is truly a great company. They were the first company to ever launch proper live dealer casino games, where players play against real dealers in a remote location (usually a land-based casino or a studio).

Their broadcasting studios are located in the UK, Latvia, and Malta, with more locations to be added in the near future. The company was founded in 2006 and today have thousands of employees, most live dealers, but also hundreds of IT and business developers.

Today, Evolution Gaming is worth over $7.8 billion on the Stockholm stock exchange.

Trustly

Payment giant Trustly has made a large chunk of its money from gambling sites. The company offers instant banking for both deposits and withdrawals, which has made them very popular among online gamblers who are known to expect speedy cashouts.

Today, they are the biggest payment provider in Sweden, according to Swedish newspaper Samnytt. Trustly Group AB was founded in 2008 and today employs over 200 people in Stockholm, Germany, England, Spain, Finland, and Malta.

Trustly is definitely not close to PayPal in size but is the most interesting upcomer among payment methods in the iGaming industry.

PayPal

You can’t mention online payments and not mention PayPal. This American giant only approves gambling clients in regulated markets like the UK. They used to provide payment solutions in Germany and “PayPal casinos” was one of the largest gambling search terms in the country.

However, due to regulatory changes, PayPal withdrew from the German gambling market last year. Most likely they will return once a regulation is in place.
