You’d think by 2017 we’d have Internet on every single flight but here we are and it’s offered on a limited number of companies. Now there is a discussion of banner carry-on laptops as the UK and US both barred laptops on carry-on from a short-list of middle-east countries. Laptops we can do without but whatever happens, do NOT take our phones. It’s our one source of entertainment, such as online casino gambling.

When it comes to flying and in-flight entertainment, it’s a surprise we haven’t had access to casinos but this might change as carriers are always looking at more ways of generating revenue. We already have small bits of in-flight gambling with Ryanair selling scratch tickets as soon as you get off the ground. Scratch tickets are better than nothing if you want to gamble but really players probably care more for everything else like slots, casino games, betting on sports, bingo and maybe even poker. For those that like to gamble, we almost expect to have access to some type of online casino, casino games or online slots that you can play and win real money.
Well, believe it or not, this is something airline carriers are keen to provide to players and it’s the perfect bit of entertainment to offer to their passengers. They already offer a wide selection of movies, tv shows, and music, it only makes sense to offer something that can help the flight go by and hey, who doesn’t want to hit a jackpot in the sky. They do even have some games you can play on the tablet screen in front of you and some of these games also include slots you can play for free. It won’t be long before we hear of passengers winning big while flying. Even if you are just a recreational player, you can keep your wagering low and kill a couple hours even using sites not covered by Gamestop.
VR In-Flight Entertainment
It’s even predicted that virtual reality will be an option of in-flight entertainment which would make flying probably more enjoyable. Keep in mind that online casinos are quick to get in on virtual reality as there are many virtual reality slots that are available and this part of online gambling is just starting to grow. Virtual reality is a growing industry on it’s own and gambling is just a part of it but this could completely change how we fly and pass the time on flights.

How Will It Work?
In theory, these casinos could be powered without internet but ideally they would be powered and controlled through the internet. The only thing that will interfere with airlines offering casino games is to know where is the jurisdiction? When players are in the air, they are in airspace and the airlines might not be subjected to the same set of laws as if they were on land. This principle is what made riverboat casinos popular was that as long as the boat was docked, they couldn’t offer casino games but once on the river they could be running and this made them exempt from the local laws. So if casinos are run through a server, it might matter where that server takes place and where the person lives or which country they are from. It’s with the idea that a player might not need a full registration meaning any person on the flight can play provided they are at least 18 years of age or older.
The only other complication is that players could win money on the flight and that money might need to be declared depending on where you are arriving and if you are asked and required to declare a set amount of income on you.
In the meantime, if people are able to connect to the internet while flying and on their phone or computer, then this is the current way you’d get around to being able to gamble while flying. There are some well known high rollers that do this already as they have a full internet connection during flights and players have done this playing poker in the past. So your favourite past-time of slots, blackjack, betting on sports or whatever you like to bet on, might just be available on your next flight!
