Once the blinds are set, the bigger blind represents the minimum bet one may place in that round. A player may not place a lower raise than the initial bet in the previous round, which means that the minimum bet (the big blind) changes as the rounds proceed.
3. Fixed-Limit Texas Hold’em
Commonly referred to as just Limit, this betting structure was traditionally preferred due to its simplicity. The player’s options are limited as the blinds are pre-set for all rounds in the game. Take a 4/8 game, the small bet is $4, and the big bet is $8. A fixed-limit poker game may also have more than two stipulated bet sizes. A 2/4/8/8 means a minimum bet of $2, $4 on the drop, and $8 on the turn and river.
If you are a beginner or someone averse to risk, this may be the best structure to opt for. You avoid the stress of all-in decisions. Errors cost less, but you are unable to raise bets to make the game aggressive.
4. No-Limit Texas Hold’em
The most commonly used strategy in the WSOP and favorite strategy among amateurs. A player is not capped and may bet or raise any amount between the minimum and everything they have on the table. Opponents may also choose to go all-in or raise any amount they wish. Recreational players who love applying pressure to opponents will find this version of Texas hold’em highly enjoyable.
