We here at Bit Rebels love recycled things. Not only is it the way of the future, but it’s also one of the geekiest ways to stay retro. These days, people usually don’t look at it as an old item will always be an old item and therefore it should be discarded. If you can recycle it, redesign it and put it to a new good use, then it’s all positive. Besides, recycled items are always one of a kind, or “one-offs” as we also call them. What can be more geeky and cool than your very own personalized item that you just know that no one else has? I always get a little weirded out when someone is sporting the same gadget accessory as I am. It’s like going to a party and finding out that the host has on the same shirt as you do. It’s not a very good start to a night if you ask me.
The design company Grove and Lindsay Jo Holmes of mapleXO know this and decided to collaborate on an iPhone case that will put you in a league of your own. It’s an iPhone case created out of recycled skateboards. The wood from the old skateboards is handpicked and handcrafted, which makes these puppies somewhat expensive. Being original has never been cheap, and it never will be.
However, paying a high price ($200 per case) for these cases doesn’t only get you one of the coolest cases on the market, you also know that there are only 50 of them made, which should tell you that you will probably never come across someone else with the same case. Well, unless one of your friends told you about it and told you to get one as well, or vice versa. The wood used is as said hand picked from 300 old skateboards. The creator of these iPhone cases has said that the process is too costly, so these 50 are the only ones that will be made, ever.
