Find Out What Your Favorite Video Games Smell Like

As we all sit and wait for the smell-o-vision technology to become a reality, the question still remains, what exactly would our favorite video games smell like? In case you don’t know what smell-o-vision is, it’s a layer of technology that will supposedly add a new dimension to gaming while assigning a scent to video games by providing scent cartridges which will provide hours of smelling pleasure while you play. This was in the news back during the beginning of 2011, but I haven’t heard much about it lately. The company that is working on this is Scent Sciences. To be honest, I would rather have scents associated with cooking shows than video games. Can you imagine what it would be like to smell what they are cooking on there?

I’ve even read very interesting articles where people have broken down in a surprisingly logical way what our favorite video games would smell like. According to Hold Your Nose, Pikachu would smell like hamster food heated up in a microwave and The Mushroom Kingdom would smell like mushrooms, which mostly smell like dirt and rot. You think that’s bad? Well, according to that article, Pac-Man would smell like a phantom ghost smell… like burning pillows or melting rubber. I can think of a lot of games that would smell like dead bodies covered in fresh blood. Now that I think about it, maybe it’s better not to have scents associated with video games after all.

Cathy, aka bubbleandgeek on Etsy, isn’t waiting around for this technology to advance. She’s decided to create her own scents for video games (and movies) in the form of candles. Below you’ll see candles that smell like LOTR, Game of Thrones (Ice and Fire), a TARDIS (vanilla custard), the chocolate cake from Portal, Harry Potter butterbeer and more. You can see her entire collection and pick these candles up for between $8 – $12 each on Etsy.
