We often talk about retro ’80s video games on Bit Rebels. All of us here grew up during that time, and we’ll never forget all those lazy Saturday afternoons when our only care in the world was where our next quarter was coming from so we could play again. Those were the days of tube socks, short shorts, feathered hair, and so much hairspray we could get caught in a windstorm and it wouldn’t move.
Do you remember what it was like back then to walk into an arcade? First our parents would pull up to the front door to drop us off. We would get out of the car as fast as possible so we wouldn’t be seen near our parents (god forbid). When we walked into the arcade, we could hear the music, but we couldn’t see immediately. It was always so dark in those places it took a few minutes for our eyes to adjust. Then we hit the games like a freight train.
Time completely stood still as we conquered Pac-Man, Tetris, Space Invaders, etc… One after the next, we played every game. We were convinced life couldn’t get any better. Back then; games weren’t about guns, violence and bloodshed. Instead, it was all about pure skill and good coordination. Getting gobbled by a ghost was about as violent as I remember it ever getting.
I found some pictures on How To Be Retronaut which were taken in those arcades back in the ’80s. They immediately took me right back to those days, so I wanted to share them with you. To see more in the collection, you can click on the link. Some of these were really hard to see since they are so old, so I tried to clean them up a tiny bit in Photoshop. I didn’t want them to lose their retro feel though, so some of them are still pretty rough. Enjoy! #memories
