Inspiring Rock Sculptures That Appear To Defy Gravity

Just looking at the images in this article makes me feel relaxed and peaceful. I’ve spent a lot of time in the North Georgia Mountains, and in rivers and lakes like what you see here. I’ve held many rocks like these in my hands, and I know first hand how slippery and heavy they can be. This patient and unbelievably talented artist, Mike Grab, who I would like to share with you today, has a unique talent when it comes to these very special rocks.

He is able to somehow stack these rocks on stop of each other, balancing them perfectly, to create stunning natural rock sculptures. He doesn’t use anything to hold them together; they are simply balanced. He does it all in a way that makes it look like a visual impossibility, but Mike shows us in the short video below that it is in fact possible. Some of these sculptures are stacked really high. They remain balanced and intact until someone knocks them down. It truly looks like he is defying the laws of gravity, but of course, he isn’t, it’s just his mad skills and impressive patience that allow him to achieve these results for everyone to enjoy. He says that it takes years of practice to learn the art of rock balancing. He makes it look so easy though, doesn’t he?

He calls his collection of rock sculptures Gravity Glue, and you can see more photos in the gallery on his website. If you ever happen to be close to Boulder Creek in Colorado, look for some of his work freestanding in the water. This type of art is truly inspiring and breath taking to me. I hope one day I will be able to spot one of these sculptures in the water myself.
