This post was so much fun to write because there is just something about seeing counterfeit versions of the stuff we love that is fun in a twisted, curious kind of way. When you really think about it, there is fake stuff all around us that is pretending to look real. I’m sure some people will read that and get all existential on me and think I’m referring to fake people, but I’m not. I’m just simply talking about the world around us.
“Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery,” is a quote by Charles Caleb Colton that has stood the test of time for almost two hundred years. Is imitation really the sincerest form of flattery? There is a blog that straight copies and pastes our posts each day and publishes them as their own content. I try to tell myself that it’s flattering, but it still puts a lump in my throat.
I had some fun looking up fake stuff today. I hope you click on some of these links for a good giggle. Of course we are all familiar with fake handbags, but how about a fake iPhone 4 that runs a fake iOS? I wonder how Steve Jobs would handle that. There’s even fake Apple Stores with fake employees. Ok, the employees aren’t fake. As a matter of fact, most of them didn’t know when they were hired that it wasn’t a real Apple Store.
Fake brands are some of the funniest fakes out there. There’s Dolce & Banana, KFG, Calvim Klain, Pizza Huh, and many more. The crazy thing is that the designers of the logos for these fakes make them look almost exactly like the real thing. They look so real that I might even be fooled if I wasn’t paying attention. These knockoff video game systems don’t look real though, but they sure make for a good laugh. Hey, do ya’ll wanna come over and play on my WiNi or my PolyStation? Yeah, something about that just seems wrong. :)
