World Record: The Largest Rubik’s Cube Wall Mosaic (85,794 Cubes)

If you thought twisting and turning one Rubik’s Cube to get the colors just right was tough, try twisting over 85,000 of them so they fit perfectly into a wall mosaic that creates a gigantic picture. This incredible feat recently earned CubeWorks yet another Guinness World Record for the largest Rubik’s Cube mural. It took a few months for the designers of this massive mural to twist all the cubes into the correct configuration.

This wall mosaic of Rubik’s Cubes was 13 feet high (4 meters) and 200 feet wide (61 meters) when it was displayed two months ago in China. They created a time-lapse video (which is below) for you to see the process it took to assemble all those Rubik’s Cubes. This is the third time CubeWorks has been able to achieve a world record for their Rubik’s Cube wall mosaics.

The part that blows my mind isn’t the twisting of that many Rubik’s Cubes (although that is definitely impressive), but more how they were able to conceptually put it all together so well. It must have taken some engineers and artists a while to map all this out before they ever got started with the cubes themselves. In order to make this wall mural look like this, each one of those cubes had to be just the right color. It’s nothing short of amazing. I wonder what they will come back and do next, and if they will try to beat their 3rd world record with a 4th one. That would require another monstrosity with even more cubes.

If you are one of those people who is frustrated because you haven’t yet mastered how to solve a Rubik’s Cube, you might want to check this out…this is an article that will teach you a little Rubik’s Cube trick that you can thank me for later: How To Look Like You Can Solve A Rubik’s Cube Even If You Can’t.
