World’s Largest Collection Of Star Wars Memorabilia Has 300,000 Pieces

Star Wars fans can rejoice…and drool over this massive amount of Star Wars memorabilia. There are over 300,000 pieces in this collection, even though only 90,546 were officially audited and calculated. That was enough for Steve Sansweet to beat the previous world record by four times. If someone were to count, audit and calculate every one of these pieces, it would probably take years. You will find him in the 2014 Guinness Book of World Records which was just released.

You may have heard Steve Sansweet’s name before. His love for Star Wars began in 1977. He even worked for Lucasfilm from 1996 – 2011. George Lucas once called him the “ultimate fan.” He now displays his massive collection of Star Wars memorabilia in a 9,000 square foot non-profit museum on the outskirts of Petaluma, California called Rancho Obi-Wan. Steve even offers personalized tours for fans who want to see his collection first hand. The full tour lasts about 3 hours. Steve said:

“I’m delighted with the recognition from Guinness World Records, which for years has been the authority in these matters. We were really excited to work with the Guinness folks. Preparing the photo shoot set a record in my book for one of the most fun-filled days ever at the museum.”

Steve recently gave Mashable the full tour. If you click over on that Mashable link, you’ll see the gallery of 98 photos they posted (they said they took over 200 photos during the tour – but they only posted the best 98). If you want to see another impressive collection of Star Wars memorabilia, you can click over to Greatest Star Wars Collection In The World (although in my humble opinion, Steve’s collection is much better). If I’m ever near Petaluma, California, I’m definitely going to visit this place!
