A popular word on most retrofied blogs is of course steampunk. It resonates with cool and amazing creations, and we’re constantly drawn to check out what is being shared. We like it not only because it binds together the current with the past, but also because most of the creations give us a real alternate world of awesomeness. No longer do we have to look at a movie or read a comic to come across the ultimate time machine fashion. We can just create it ourselves, and have it our own way.
The movement that is called steampunk has become somewhat popular with a new generation of artists who are constantly bringing the genre forward with one rad creation after another. Everything from cell phones and lighters to entire iron horses have been steampunked out of of oblivion, and we all love it. Packing all the steampunk finds into one single website would be a full time job since there really are no limits to what’s being created out there. Here on Bit Rebels we try to share with you the most pristine and awesome creations, so don’t despair, there will always be new things showcased here.
Bob Basset, a fashion designer and artist, really made his creations reverberate through the crowd of noise. Not only are his creations quite appealing, they are also on the edge of becoming true art pieces made to be viewed in a museum. No wonder the steampunk genre has gotten such a cult following, after all, the stuff is super addicting to look like. Whenever I come across it, I always immediately think of Myst, Riven and the whole series of awesome puzzle solving games from Cyan Worlds.
This mohawk leather mask isn’t just something that you’d put up in a glass display and wait for people to cheerfully comment upon it. Nope, it is actually a fully working and wearable piece that you could use in any cosplay reenactment as you see fit. That’s what I like about steampunk, the fact that even though the items in question have been beautified through the steampunk process, they almost always remain working. That’s why having a steampunked item is so flippin uber cool. You totally get something to show off when you are at a cafe or a restaurant. Just turning the steampunked cell phone on will probably get a ton of people chattering about it. If anything, it’s a great conversation starter.
