Science Inspired Drinkware Turns Your Kitchen Into A Chemistry Lab

If you’re a chemistry geek, have you ever been in the lab and thought a beaker or a flask might make a cool drinking glass? I have. I haven’t been in the lab since I graduated from university, but I remember thinking that all those chemistry glasses would make a neat set of drinkware. Designer Marshall Jamshidi also had this idea, and he’s created a whole set of drinkware inspired by science. Each piece is elegantly shaped and gorgeous, in a geeky chemistry lab kind of way.

The set is called Periodic TableWare, and it’s the combination of laboratory glass and functional drinkware. Marshall liked the idea of using chemistry lab glass since it looks alien yet recognizable. What he ended up with are drinking glasses that are both interesting to look at and entertaining.

If you put these in your kitchen, it might start to look like a chemistry lab. I’m sure kids would love to add some baking soda and food coloring in these glasses to get a real science experiment going. You can see in the martini glass below that he also added colored fluid in the bottom part which creates a smooth flowing layer of color. If you decide to get some of these, you can choose a blue, green, purple or red color in that layered bottom part of that glass.

In order to get this chemistry lab drinkware manufactured, Marshall is currently raising funding on Kickstarter. You can check that out at Periodic TableWare. He is seeking $30,000, and with 22 days to go, he has already raised a little more than $10,000 so it’s definitely do-able. These beautiful glasses make science seem even more interesting to me. These glasses would probably inspire me to start mixing all kinds of fluids (drinks) in them, just like in the lab.
