Plastic shopping bags have been the center of a lot of controversy when it comes to recycling, reusing and other environmental issues. Some people believe that the millions of plastic bags given out in grocery stores every day are responsible for much of our daily waste. Then there are other people who say that even though plastic shopping bags are not good for the environment, they don’t make that big of an impact, and requiring people to carry their groceries in another type of bag would cause more harm than good.
For example, Los Angeles recently banned the use of plastic shopping bags; however, along with that comes a charge of ten cents per paper bag (if you don’t bring your own bags). Many people say that the homeless should not be forced into paying for a bag just to carry their food. If you are one of those people who has a drawer full of plastic shopping bags, and you don’t know what to do with them, I have an idea for you. How about Recycle Plastic Bags Into Woven Baskets? It’s not as time consuming as you might think.
Sandwich bags and freezer bags are a whole different thing though. They are so small that it’s easy to toss them in the garbage can without thinking about it, but it’s really a shame to do that. There are so many ways those bags can be reused, and I don’t mean for food. Yumi Sakugawa at WonderHowTo put together this little chart called 14 Amazing Reuses For Sandwich/Freezer Bags. There are a lot of great ideas on here, and I hope this inspires you to reuse the plastic bags in your house!
