5 Common Problems When Traveling For The Holidays

Traveling is an exciting experience. From seeing new sights to immersing yourself into a new culture, traveling is full of adventure. However, with every positive comes a negative and traveling is no exception. Many have dealt with problems during their travels ranging from long lines to a flight delay.

Here are common problems you may experience while traveling for the holidays.

You Accidentally Lost Your Cell Phone

Losing a pair of headphones is one thing, but your smartphone is another story. In this day and age, almost everything is done from a smartphone. From messaging and email to verifying flight status, you need your phone.

One of the best ways to avoid setting your phone down and walking away is by storing it in your waistband. This way, even if you were to lose your wallet or purse, you still have your phone.

Your Luggage Was Lost

If you thought losing your smartphone was bad, having your luggage lost is no different. It can be considered as worse as you’ll have to replace many things rather than just one. This is why you should always pack an extra set of clothes in your carry-on bag. In some cases, the airline will simply mail your luggage back to your house. Never forget to attach tags to your suitcases with your return address on it.

The Airport Is Packed With People

You may have gotten an incredible deal on your plane ticket, but you’re not the only one. In fact, this is why airports are always so crowded. And with crowded airports come ridiculously long lines for the ticket verification, food stands, and even the bathroom. If you prepare right, you won’t have to deal with the lines at the food stands or bathroom. But sadly, there’s no avoiding the ticket booth.

Becoming Ill

Traveling is fun to do, especially during the holidays, but it’s not without risk. If you’re traveling to a foreign country, it’s not impossible for you to become ill. In fact, depending on where you are traveling, if permitted, you should prepare accordingly. Be sure to pack any prescription medication you need.

It’s also a good idea to check anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medication as well. Finally, since traveling during a pandemic makes things even more stressful, be sure that you pack spare masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer as well.

Delayed Flights

Traveling during the holidays and delayed and canceled flights are almost the norm. As such, it’s a good idea to know in advance the airline’s policy when it comes to a claim for a delayed flight. While some airlines offer a claim for a delayed flight without a fuss, others may try to work things out differently.

According to Travel Refund, “Airlines often claim extraordinary circumstances to avoid paying a claim, but that can sometimes be disputed in court based on the situation. Therefore, it can still be worth a try to file a flight delay claim.” Even if you contact your airline and inquire prior to your departure, it’s still best to have an extra layer of protection and avoid conflict.

The Takeaway

When it comes to holiday travel, you need to plan in advance. Make sure you start packing at least a week before leaving. Also, in addition to following the latest news on the pandemic and whether travel is permitted, again remember to verify your airline’s policy when it comes to a claim for a delayed flight. The last thing you need during the holiday is to be stuck in an airport with no way out.
