Your carpet is somewhat a “crown” or a “cloak” to your floor. They add class, flair, and style to your living room. They also feel great under the feet because of their texture. Your visitors would admire it when they walk into your living room and so would you.
There are many types and brands of carpets, and they all give a different feel to the living room. They vary in shape, size, texture, weight, and price. One thing they all have in common is they can get stained!
Visitors who come in with shoes, spilled drinks and pets are among a few ways your carpet can get stained. It might not seem bad the first time a stain hits your carpet, but as it piles up over time it could get really dirty and smelly.
Cleaning carpet stains is no fun at all, the stain, depending on what substance it is, could sink really deep. Getting such stains off could be difficult. In this article, we will discuss 5 ways to clean your carpet.
Each method has been tested and trusted, it’s worked for lots of people and it’ll work for you too. Depending on your carpet type and the stain in question (of course). The materials you need to clean are available in stores and in your home, and they aren’t expensive. Now, here are 5 ways to clean your carpet, as we recommend.
Using a vacuum cleaner seems to be the most popular way of carpet cleaning right? Check home dorks, you can make sure it and find the suitable vacuum your household. but you still have to do it right.
Before you start vacuuming your carpet, make sure you first clear the floor of items like toys, books, shoes, and your pets laying around (that’s if you have any). Just so you can really clean without interference.
One more thing you need to check for before you vacuum is small pieces of metal (like coins) because it could damage your vacuum cleaner if it gets sucked in. Be sure to vacuum vertically, horizontally and diagonally just so you don’t miss a spot.
This technique is important for people who have dogs or cats. You can scoop up pet hair off your rug more effectively when you maneuver the vacuum in different directions. Keep in mind that it would be wise to first dust off your curtains, drapes, ceiling fans, shelves, TV set and basically everything above ground before you vacuum.
You’re doing this so all the dust can settle on the floor. It will be annoying if you vacuum the carpet only to have dust particles fall on it just because the items above weren’t cleaned first. Also, look under the furniture as you vacuum, those tight or hidden corners are a favorite hiding spot for dust particles.
Depending on your situation, it is advised you vacuum your carpet at least 3 times a week. You’ll keep your carpet fresher this way. Also, don’t forget to service your vacuum cleaner regularly, a clogged vacuum cleaner won’t suck up any dirt!
Using white cloth here is important because dampened colored cloths can leave it’s color as a stain on your carpet. You need to first blot the stain with a dry, clean white piece of cloth, then use another piece of clean white cloth to wipe the stains left behind after you blot. Picking the right carpet cleaner is important when using this method.
Using enzyme-based cleaners are usually the best, but before you spray over the stain, make sure you do a little spray-test in a not-too-obvious portion of the carpet. This is to see if the spray will leave stains on your rug after it dries up. This cleaning method is ideal for spot stains on your carpet, and not for general cleaning. This method is good for wine or beverage spillages.
This method might seem aggressive, but it works just fine. It is suitable for removing tiny pieces of solids like cookie crumbs and sand particles from your carpet. Especially those particles that have found their way deep inside the carpet.
Brushing your carpet requires that you get down on your knees and scrub. Make sure you don’t scrub too aggressively, for the sake of your carpet’s material. You can brush particles onto a dustpan or just loosen the particles and vacuum. Using a brush may also work on liquid stains but that means you have to brush really hard and that could damage your carpet.
This is probably the most physically tasking method of them all because it requires constant elbow motion and knee support. It is, however, very effective. We recommend you brush your carpet weekly to rid it of dust, crumbs and other allergens that could be dangerous to health.
As far as cleaning carpets is concerned, baking soda works like magic! It is not expensive and it does a great job on carpets. What makes this a gem is that it’s so easy to access, you probably got some left in your kitchen right now. Baking soda is environmentally friendly. It won’t just tackle stains on your carpet, it will tackle the odors as well.
Here’s how you use it. You spray some over the stained areas and leave it for, let’s say 3 hours. The baking soda will break all the stains down and as it dries, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the residue. A clean and fresh smelling carpet would be the end product of this procedure.
One cup of white vinegar, two cups of warm water, two teaspoons of table salt and five drops of essential oil, boom! You have your homemade vinegar solution. It is great at ridding your carpets of tough stains caused by spills. It can tackle wine, coffee, and soda stains. It can also clean out those stubborn pet stains and odors.
The great thing is, all the ingredients you need to make this solution are things you most likely have at home already. Easy! Cleaning a carpet can be tough, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. As long as you know the right things to do. Hope these tips have been helpful. Cheers!
