How To: Stop Being Shy

Would you believe that as a young child I was very very shy? I was like that all the way up until high school. I remember my parents had a hard time leaving me in school since I would usually cry my lungs out. I remember standing in a corner while watching my classmates play with each other.

The reason I was like that was because I was very shy and afraid to interact. I was in an International school (San Lorenzo Nursery/Kindergarten) where kids from all different countries attended. I was afraid and too shy to communicate with any of them. I’m just glad I overcame my shyness. When I was in high school, I started joining different clubs so that I could learn how to interact and feel comfortable being with other people.

Being shy is something that can hinder you from achieving a lot of things in life, and you can miss out on a lot of opportunities. People have different reasons for being shy. It can be lack of self confidence or lack of exposure. It can be scary to think about interacting with various types of people. Whatever the reason is, do not fret, there are ways to stop being shy.

There are six steps that are outlined in this video, and I believe they makes a lot of sense:

1. Boost your self esteem

2. Practice your conversation skills

3. Practice body language

4. Test your abilities

5. Breath deeply

6. Relax
