It’s Memorial Day weekend, and we all know what that means – bikinis, barbecues, and beer. What better way to remember the sacrifice of our service men and women than by having a raging poolside party that everyone will be too drunk to remember? It’s the American way!
Memorial Day weekend is one of the biggest holidays of the year for beer sales, just under the Fourth of July and Labor Day (Kay Whittenhauer), but beer sales are prohibited on actual Memorial Day. Just make sure you stock up beforehand, and you’ll be playing beer pong all night long. But after the party is over, there is a price to be paid for all that drinking, and I’m not talking about the receipt.
According to Insure.com, in 2010, 158 people died in the United States due to alcohol-related crashes on Memorial Day weekend. That doesn’t include the hundreds more that were injured due to these crashes. This infographic, called “The Sobering Effects of Drunk Driving,” gives an overview of the devastating effects drunk driving has each year. Remember, if you’re going to drink this weekend, talk to the person who’s hosting the party. Make sure you’re welcome to sleep over if you’re not able to drive or get a cab. You could save your life or someone else’s by not getting behind the wheel drunk.
