If you live in the United States like I do, you know that some states do things more or less than other states. For example, I live in the south, which is the Bible Belt of the country. It’s no surprise that down here there are the most churches and the highest rate of church attendance compared to the rest of the country.
If you’ve been to L.A., you’ve seen the layer of gray smog that peacefully lingers in air, and everyone knows the air pollution in California is at an all time high. However, what I didn’t know is that my own state, Georgia, is the “most sickly.” Hmm… it makes me glad I keep hand sanitizer on my desk.
These little maps of the United States of Awesome and the United States of Shame are a fun way to waste five minutes. Now you can see what your own state is best at and worst at. I wouldn’t put too much value in this though; it’s only for fun. I can’t help but wonder how much of this is just cause and effect. For example, I wonder what the population of New Mexico is. Perhaps they are just listed as most “anti-social” because there aren’t as many people there, who knows, right?
In case you aren’t from this country (or in case you live in Maine), I also included a map that shows the name of each state, so you know which states you are looking at. Here is a list of state abbreviations. Mental note: Don’t ever move to Louisiana or Alaska.
