A beach holiday is an integral part of leisure tourism for most tourists, especially those that hail from the west. Adventurous water sports activities, parasailing above the open sea or diving under the water and relaxing under the on the soft beach sand brings an unparalleled mental and physical relaxation.
However, the most popular beach destinations that most western travelers generally flock to are either in Europe or around Mediterranean and Caribbean destinations. Most of those destinations are quite expensive for an ordinary traveler, and unless you do not mind spending thousands of dollars, they are next to impossible for average budget tourists.
Interestingly, South Asia has some truly magical tropical beaches that are on par with any other exotic beach destination in the world. Most of these Asian locations are tropical countries that offer picturesque natural beauty, happening nightlife and attractions and comfortable and decent accommodation at a much more economical price.
The general exchange rate parity between most western countries and Thailand make them much cheaper for average western travelers. If you are beach lover on a budget, here are some of the hottest beaches in Thailand that you can easily pull off at a fraction of cost that you will incur at Hawaii or Bora Bora.
This nature’s paradise on earth was a hidden gem in Thailand until it was uncovered after a 2000 Hollywood blockbuster The Beach was shot at this particular location. Maya Bay is a beach strip in Koh Phi Phi a beautiful small island near Phuket, Thailand.
Maya Bay is dominated by soft white beach sand, emerald, and turquoise Andaman waters and rich rainforest. The clear waters and the beautiful corals and reefs around the area make it an excellent spot for scuba diving and snorkeling.
To access Maya Bay, you will need to touch down at Phuket, the largest island town in Thailand and take a boat, catamaran or a ferry from there to reach Maya Bay. While you are at it, a stopover at Phuket for a couple of nights is highly recommended especially if you are looking for touristy attractions and happening nightlife.
Unlike the calm and exotic Maya Bay and Koh Phi Phi, Phuket ais all about music, parties, scrumptious food, shopping, and numerous activities. You can choose to stay at the vibrant Patong Beach that is alive all night or relatively quieter Kata or Karon. Some of the notable Phuket attractions include elephant safari, Phuket Fantasea, Bangla Street, etc.
Similan Islands are famous around the world among the diving community for its rich reef. Located within a Marine National Park, Similan Islands are by far the best diving spot in the entire Andaman Sea and you cannot miss this one if scuba diving is on your cards.
Some of the notable marine species in this region include Leopard Sharks, White Tip Reef Sharks, Batfish and Barracudas among others. That being said, most diving spots in Similan islands have a visibility limit of up to 40 meters and are not recommended for amateur and novice divers.
