Last weekend I attended a Word Camp. It was good to see so many people who are active in blogging here in the Philippines. I was even fortunate enough to meet Mr. WordPress himself, Mr. Matt Mullenweg, in person. I was also able to talk about my experiences in blogging here at Bit Rebels and at Ink Rebels in one of the breakout sessions. It was a wonderful experience to have feedback sessions where people asked very relevant questions and shared their experiences in blogging.
Most of the people I met actually make a living from blogging. Others, like me, do it out of the love for sharing information and experiences. There was a specific talk on “Blogging with Passion” that inspired me to write this article. Jayvee Fernandez has been blogging for over 7 years. He shares his passion for diving and helping the environment. Here are some reasons he gave for why it’s good to blog with passion! These are inspiring to think about:
Reason #1 – Do it because you love it and can sustain the momentum. Use your talent to bring about change that you feel can be achieved by making people aware of a cause or a plight.
Reason #2 – Do it because you want to create change or share relevant information. Do not be one who does it because everyone is doing it! Be the change you want to see.
Reason #3 – Do it because what you write today can have an effect tomorrow. At the conference, there was a man from General Santos, a province in our country that was once known as a place where violence is very rampant. He shared with us that since he lives there now and knows that it is no longer violent, he writes about his province the way it is now. He says when people search for their province, it no longer comes up as a violent city, but instead, one that is thriving and slowly becoming developed.
Reason #4 – Do it because it is your way of sharing your world with others. People often think that in order for you to be a successful blogger, you need to be super eloquent and use big words all the time. This is simply not true. If you have something worthwhile to share, get your computer and start writing. Who knows what piece of information or experience of yours will be useful to someone else. You won’t know unless you do it!
Reason #5 – Do it because it can inspire others. When you think of a topic, make sure you have others in mind as well. Does it benefit someone else? We often write for our own pleasure. Don’t get me wrong, that is also important. However, also think of what good you can offer to others with what you write. It can be information, something that will make someone laugh, or touch their hearts, or an experience they can relate to. It can also be something that will inspire them to action.
Maybe the next time you hear of a blogging conference happening in your area, you can try to participate. I am truly grateful that I did, it has opened up my world to how other bloggers and writers approach and find inspiration.
