5 Social Media Lessons You Learned Back In Kindergarten [Infographic]

Learning how to hang in the social media community is not hard. Some people make it out to be harder than it is, and there are entire blogs devoted to explaining how to do it. For some of us, it’s second nature. I’m not sure why that is, but it’s probably just because we don’t over think it. As Leonardo da Vinci once said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” You learn about social media through experience. It turns out, social media lessons are like kindergarten lessons.

I think that is why I’m a fan of the “Social Media Explained As…” illustrations and photos we’ve all seen over the years. They are so simple a child could learn about social media from them. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can click over to 10 Ways To Explain Social Media To Those Who Still Don’t Get It.

This infographic called Social Media Lessons You Learned In Kindergarten (by Uberflip) makes a great case for how simple social media can be. According to Shanna Mallon at Uberflip, “If you want to play with other kids in the social media sandbox, you need to learn a couple pointers on friendly interaction – unless you want to play alone.”

The five social media lessons you learned in kindergarten that you didn’t even realize you already knew are: Play nice, be yourself, pay attention, ask for help and have fun. I have to wholeheartedly agree with that assessment. If you can follow those five simple guidelines, you’ll be doing just fine. I like how there is a specific social media example on this infographic for each one of these social media lessons.

In my humble opinion, I would say that even though it sounds cliché, the most important one on here is to have fun. The reason why that is so important is because the moment social media feels like a job is the moment the magic is lost. When that happens, your updates can feel forced and stale. Stay connected in the community and make friends. That way, it will stay fresh and you’ll be more consistent, which will lead to social media success!
