When I was growing up, opening up to my parents was easy. They always encouraged us to speak. I cannot imagine not being able to say anything to the people I look up to. I guess I was very sheltered growing up. I was also very idealistic because I never thought that kids had actual problems. I often thought that people only had problems once they were grown up. I found a site that actually helps kids speak out about their troubles. The site is called Childline.
ChildLine is a free 24 hour counseling service for children and young people up to and including age 18. It is provided by the NSPCC. ChildLine deals with any issues which cause distress or concern, such as child abuse, bullying and sex. ChildLine’s intention is to always keep calls confidential. ChildLine counselors only take action if the situation is very serious or life threatening. Counselors do not record calls, but they take case notes of calls and sometimes counseling supervisors may also listen in to make sure that they can help the best way they can.
If you know of a child who is in need of help, you can also check the site for more information. I have included the video here on how the site works. It’s always good to know that there is a place where kids of any age can speak out about what is on their mind and in their heart.
