Some girls love diamond necklaces, some love pearl necklaces, and some love open source necklaces with pulsating LED lights where the default pattern is reverse engineered from the Apple “breathing” LED on MacBooks, iMacs, etc. It’s definitely a piece of jewelry that will show the world you are a hardcore geek with a soft spot.
Since the pendant on the necklace is completely open source, you can mod or hack it to be whatever you want it to be. You can find all the code and files here on GitHub. The pendant hangs on an 18-inch chain, and it comes with two batteries (one for now and one for later). The back of the pendant easily screws off with a coin to install the battery.
The iNecklace was created by Adafruit. I originally found the Adafruit website when I was doing research for my article about Geeky Raspberry Pi Cases, and since then, it’s become one of my favorite sites. We’ve written about a lot of high-tech interactive jewelry before, but I think this is the first time we’ve featured anything that you could actually customize yourself. So if you are a hacker, go for it! The sky is the limit. Get creative and show her how much she means to you. Make this badboy express your true love. Make it say “I love you” in Morse code or something like that, and I’m sure you will win her heart forever! You can order it here for $75.
