Wow, just wow! Some of you may remember the first version of Art Lebedev‘s Optimus keyboard and how revolutionizing it was when the first few images of it surfaced a few years ago. It was definitely one of the strongest “must-have” feelings I’ve ever felt when I looked at it. The Optimus keyboard was unique because it enabled you to change whatever was displayed on the keys on the keyboard since each key was an LED screen. Everyone who saw this keyboard thought it was the greatest invention since the mouse for computers. Then the price was announced, and the excitement kind of died down. It was ridiculously expensive and cost around $2,000 for a small keyboard I think.
It seems things have become a lot cheaper these days, and with this new version called the Optimus Popularis, maybe things will turn out in the customer’s favor. Just looking at these photos makes my whole brain plunge into a pool of ideas about what I want on that badboy. With just a keystroke, I could switch it up to handle Photoshop short commands only to press it again and have the ultimate Minecraft keyboard.
The price for this new version is slightly more humane at about $1,100. Damn it looks cool, shiny and badass all bundled into one smooth package. Imagine operating this thing in a dark room. It would be way better than the lame ass keyboards that we are all used to today. Maybe Apple, who tends to stay on top of things, should have a look at this and see if they can create one themselves. That usually spawns a price war worthy of the “epic” word. Dear Santa, if you think I have been a good boy this year, my wish is to get one of these.
