This is a huge deal for those of us that live in the States! As of today, Gmail users in the United States will be able to make and receive calls from their Gmail account. How cool is that?
According to Gmail, all calls made to phone numbers within the States and Canada will be free. However, I checked, and even the international rates are super duper cheap. For those of us that carry our laptops with us, this is going to be a handy option for those times when cell reception is bad or when we don’t want to roam.
You can read all the juicy details about how to set this up on the Google Voice Blog. There is not much more to do than install a little voice and video plug-in. Your Google Voice number will show as the outbound caller ID number.
