Online Activity Report: Men vs. Women [Infographic]

There is no doubt the Internet is becoming more and more popular. If anything, Facebook’s user count should be a testament to that. It turns out, when it comes to our activity, it varies a lot depending on whether you are a male or a female. The average user today can connect to the Internet through three different devices. That’s a lot when you think about the fact that the Internet is used by over 2.5 billion people from all over the world. 10% of the Internet’s users can connect with up to 5 devices. These are statistics that would have boggled anyone’s mind back in the early ’90s. When it comes to our current Internet usage, we are starting to look more and more like addicts. In order to clarify this, a study was conducted which became somewhat of an online activity report.

What are we doing on the Internet? Who uses what services, and what is the difference between male and female Internet usage? These are some of the questions that were asked before this online activity report was completed. Even though the answers are not very surprising, they are still quite interesting since we haven’t really been presented with them before.

When looking closer at our addiction rate, the results given in this online activity report determine that 62% of the Internet’s users have to have access to the Internet in order to function in their everyday lives. Looking deeper into the statistics shows that men use the Internet more than women do each week. Men tend to spend an average of 19 hours online per week, while women spend approximately 14 hours online per week. That might not seem like a lot of hours, but it washes out to be around 2 to 2.5 hours a day. That’s quite a lot of time we spend browsing around, commenting and uploading pictures.

The most interesting statistic presented in this online activity report is the fact that 75% of the Internet’s users are online before 9:00am in the morning. That is a clear indicator that most of us have an Internet addiction. If it’s not severe, it is at least a mild one. We should remember though that the Internet has become such a huge part of our everyday lives that some things wouldn’t even function if it wasn’t for the Internet. This report delves into that a little bit as well.

It also seems this suggests the longest we can go without checking our email or social media profiles is approximately 90 minutes. For some people, even that is a torture. So how come some people are so addicted to the Internet while others have a more laid back approach to it all? That’s something this report does not really go into all that much. However, it is quite clear that the world is becoming ever more dependent on the Internet.

What men and women do online varies quite a bit according to this online activity report. It’s not really that surprising, but some things men spend way more time on than women are browsing news, sports scores and gaming. Women do a lot more shopping online than men do. As a matter of fact, 40% of all women using the Internet do pretty much all their clothes shopping online. That is a lot, and a statistic that should definitely be inspiring to any online clothing shop owners.

This online activity report infographic presented by Siteopia has plenty more statistics that are well worth looking into. It’s called Generation of Internet Addicts and is jam-packed with cool statistics that are divided into male versus female gender columns. After looking at this, are you an average Internet user with a mild case of addiction or did you surpass that line long ago?

I will end this article by sharing one of the more hilarious statistics on this infographic. It so happens that 17% of all male Internet users clear their browser history after each session. 50% of those would panic if their mom saw their browser history. Yeah, as you might have guessed by now, the age group that uses the Internet the most, according to this online activity report, is young people between the ages of 18 and 24. Will the world’s Internet addiction get worse or will we be able to get it under control? Only the future will tell.
