Wearable Device Lets You Play Air Guitar Like A Real Pro

If you want to see some stellar air guitar performances, all you have to do is hit Interstate 285 in Atlanta around rush hour. You’ll get to see people playing their air guitars along with their keyboard and drum steering wheels while sitting in dreadful standstill traffic. It seems one designer decided it was time to turn his wicked air guitar performances into real guitar practice time. He created a way for musicians to play a guitar without the actual instrument.

It uses a motion technology like Leap and Myo, and it’s called Soundbrace. Designer Eugene Wang created his Soundbrace concept design to be a wearable device for anyone. It will turn your own fingers and arms into instruments. It’s basically a gesture-based instrument, which means it’s an air guitar that actually works. Two detectors, based on Myo technology, measure the electrical activity in your arm muscles. Two motion capture cameras, based on Leap Motion technology, detect exactly where your fingers are.

The two wristbands are connected, and they know how far apart they are from each other. That way, the system knows how big your air guitar is based on how far apart your arms are. There’s even an earphone jack and a micro USB port for your convenience. I don’t know if this will ever be manufactured into a real product, but if it is, I’m sure it will keep a lot of people entertained while sitting in a traffic jam.

If you want to see another musical way to get through rush hour, just click over to Steering Wheel Drum Machine Turns Your Boring Ride Into A Party. It will turn your steering wheel into a wicked drum machine, and you’ll never have to take your eyes off the road while you’re playing for your crowd of fans.
