Kinetic Work Desk That’s A Mashup Between Desk, Smartphone And Fitbit

Sitting all day while we work on the computer is so bad for our health. We all know that by now. But what are we to do? We could set a reminder on our phones to alert us to walk around once an hour, or we could get one of those fancy treadmill desks so we can slowly walk all day long. Another option is we could get this kinetic work desks that learns our habits and then tells us when to sit, stand or take a break.

This work desk goes far beyond just being able to be used as a sitting or standing desk. It has a lot of high tech features, and I have a feeling if I tried it, I’d never want to work from another desk again. It was created by Stir, which is a startup founded by iPod creator JP Labrosse. His goal was to alleviate the health problems associated with sitting too long.

It of course has a touchscreen on the top so you can track how long you’ve been sitting during the day. If you have a standing goal (for example – you might want to set a goal to stand 30% during your workday), the desk will alert you when it’s time to stand (or sit). This kinetic work desk also calculates the amount of calories you are burning by either sitting or standing (which will in itself encourage you to stand more).

This desk also has built in wi-fi and Bluetooth connections so you can link up other fitness trackers, equipment and apps to further help you integrate fitness and better health into your workday. There’s even a “WhisperBreath” feature to remind you to take a break during the day.

You can tell from the simplistic design and clean lines that someone who worked on Apple products designed this. There’s only one button on the whole desk, and from there, you can control all the features. It’s being called a mashup between a smartphone, desk and a Fitbit.

Now for the downside – the price for this work desk starts at $3,890 and goes up from there. I suppose if you looked at this as one of the main pieces of furniture in your home, it might seem so high.
