If you or anyone you know has ever had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, you know it’s a very painful. It can keep people from doing the things they love, like typing on a keyboard. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome causes numbness and pain in the hand and wrist. I know of an up-and-coming comic illustrator who had to stop his very successful webcomic due to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This computer mouse was designed to specifically accommodate people who may be suffering from that hand and wrist pain.
This is a levitating, wireless mouse called BAT. It was designed by Vadim Kibardin. It has a floating (levitating) navigator which stays in place with the magnetic base. According to Vadim, this mouse can prevent and treat carpal tunnel syndrome.
As far as I can tell, Vadim is a designer, not a doctor. However, having an ergonomically designed mouse would probably help not only those with Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, but it would be a more comfortable mouse for everyone else also. Looking at these images is almost soothing, and I can image how much more natural it would be to use this mouse instead of a traditional one.
With the controls of the mouse itself in a more ergonomic position, I’m sure this might even make working with a mouse fun again. I only use a mouse once or twice a week these days since I’ve gotten very speedy with my trackpad. I wish I had more information about how exactly it levitates. If I’m able to find that out, I will definitely update you. If you know, please leave it in a comment below. I can’t help but think a solution like this could help a lot of people who have had to stop blogging or tweeting since Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can make it too painful to type.
