I think it’s safe to say that Harry Potter has taken the world by storm. The books made J.K.Rowling the first author ever to earn over 1 billion dollars, and the movies have a lot to do with that of course. I think I watched the first movie at the theater, and I thought it was something extraordinary. However, I don’t think anyone could have known that it would become the phenomenon that it came to be.
Each movie has its own mood, and a lot of people attribute that to the fact that most of them have different directors. Something that people probably don’t know is that J.K.Rowling has a lot to do with the whole movie thing. When she was first approached about making the Harry Potter books into a movie series, she immediately said that it had to be British actors in the leading roles otherwise she wouldn’t go through with it. There were of course a whole lot of demands from her, and I think that helped the movie series become the success that it is today.
Something I have seen all through the series though is the deterioration of the Warner Bros. logo in the intro of each movie. You might not notice it when watching the movies one per year (as they come out), but when they are put on top of each other, the whole thing becomes clear as day. You can see a definite change in how the logo is presented, and in each movie it seems to get more rusty and old.
I don’t know if it is a trick to set up the mood for each movie since each movie seems to get darker and darker, but it definitely has some kind of effect on us I think. Have a look at the logos in this compilation and tell me that what I am seeing is a degradation in the metal it’s made out of. It’s a pretty clever way of setting you up for what is to become an adventure into an ever darker world.
