Confidence vs. Arrogance In Successful Entrepreneurs [Chart]

If there is one characteristic that is annoying when it comes to entrepreneurs, it’s arrogance. It’s tricky though because if you aren’t self confident, it’s tough to be successful. You definitely want to come across as having confidence. For entrepreneurs, there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. I read something today that said the difference between confidence and arrogance is the difference between Jay-Z and Kanye. Now you know what I mean.

So how do you come across as self-confident without coming across as arrogant? The answer is humility, and I don’t mean the fake kind of humility that’s obvious to spot a mile away. Take an interest in people, regardless of what you’re going to get out of it. Exchange ideas and take part in meaningful conversations. Contribute value in the lives of others. Be humble and kind.

As an entrepreneur, the moment you start getting arrogant enough to think that you don’t have to worry about the competition is the moment you know you have some real problems. There are many companies that have started out strong as a humble startup, and then failed because of someone’s blatant arrogant attitude about their business. It’s interesting how the universe corrects those things though. Failure forces introspection, and from that, many times humility grows. I’ve been there and learned that.

You know you are an arrogant entrepreneur if you don’t consider the ideas of others. If you are inflexible and think your way is the only right way – you could be arrogant and not even realize it, which could be one reason why you are struggling with success. This chart called Confident Entrepreneur vs. Arrogant Entrepreneur (by Funders and Founders) sums it up nicely. I hope you enjoy it!
