Money doesn’t buy happiness–but it does buy a place to live, clothes to wear, and food to eat. If you’re just barely making ends meet with your day job, you’re probably pretty interested in earning some cash on the side. While you don’t want to be working a 60-hour week, there are some great (and usually easy) ways to make an income on the side. For better luck making money, check out this list of side gigs.
If you thought being a babysitter was something you only did in high school, think again. Being a pet sitter or a child sitter can be a great way to earn some extra money in the evenings and on weekends. Build up trust with family and friends, and then even offer your skill to another family who’s looking. Babysitting can be a great gig in the evenings since you usually have time to yourself after the kiddos go to bed. Pet sitting on the weekends, or even an entire week, is a fantastic way to make some extra cash–usually, you just stay over at your friend’s house while they’re gone, making sure their animal is fed, walked, and happy.
While most passive income schemes are too hard to break into, there are a few ways of earning money online without doing much work. Setting up an online store can be a great way to make money on the side, while other ventures, like creating and selling your own digital products, can help you earn cash. If you’ve got a unique and easily-proven skill, consider setting up an online course to make money off your talent. People love to learn, so you could teach cooking, helpful psychology tips, or indoor plant care with an online video.
One of the most lucrative ways to earn income on the side is to be a landlord. If you’re still working 40 hours a week, you probably want to stick to something small and simple–maybe a garden unit, or the other half of your duplex. Getting that monthly rent payment is a great source of extra cash, and a tenant or two won’t be much trouble–although you will have to quickly address dishwasher, plumbing, heating, or other issues. You can find a place you like, that’s in your budget, and advertise a rental property for free online. If you’re friendly, reward good behavior, and are always legally prepared before you begin (it’s a good idea to film the property before you lease it, and have a lawyer look over your lease), then you could have fantastic success as a landlord.
Making money can seem like the top pursuit of our life, and while money isn’t what really matters, it is important for living a comfortable life. If you could use a little extra cash, start brainstorming ways to add a couple hundred dollars to your monthly paycheck. A little bit goes a long way, and when your bank account stops looking so lean, you’ll be glad you took the time to brainstorm.
