We stumble through life most commonly living in vast cities where the pace outruns our own. Our dreams grow ever more simple, and once we can afford it, we want to leave the highly populated madness for something a little bit more quiet and a little bit more sane. It has become the mold for a successful life to venture into this race between idea and execution, which sometimes leads to a complete meltdown. Is it healthy? By far not, and yet we completely immerse ourselves in this endeavor as if our whole existence screamed for it to happen. This scream, so loud that it echoes between the high rises that obscure the rays of the sun, drains our energy while our whole entity tries to smother it with dreams of a simpler life.

Then, right there, we start planning our vacation which we hope will let us touch just a grain of what a life in complete nirvana would feel like. I dare to say that what we all imagine as the word “vacation” streams through every cell in our brain can all be compacted into one single simple word, beach. This internal vision plows through the chaos that makes up our daily schedule, only to be littered once again with a new stack of chores that will ensure that another heartbeat will thump in vein. The sand between our toes, the warmth of the sun that injects the vitamin D into our ecosystem, and the water that splashes from the playing kids who don’t yet grasp the responsibility of life itself, is the glue that keeps us sane, for the most part.

A pattern emerges, but it’s not the pattern of a lifestyle. It’s a pattern carefully marked in the sand to create soothing swirls and connections. In our head, it symbolizes everything that inspires us, makes us smile and keeps our attitudes positive. It’s proof enough to assure us that anything is possible, if we are only prepared to leave the invisible box that we keep ourselves locked inside, as if it was expected of us. The reasons why sand art is so impressive to me are many, but the main thing is… because we can.
